On June 6 & 7 WICEN NSW supported the running of the True Grit Obstacle Challenge held in Lower Portland with something approaching 2,000 competitors over the weekend. WICEN set up a commercial VHF network to allow management, safety, and first aid messages to be passed to the event managers and to first aid providers. The repeater at Kurrajong was used to keep in contact with the outside world as mobile phone coverage was very poor. A few new WICEN members participated who gained experience towards their VRA induction. Although the workload was very light, good experience was gained by those members who participated.

The Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad is holding the 27th NavShield over the weekend of 4th and 5th July. WICEN communications teams will deploy on the evening of Friday 3rd July.
