WICEN has now been provided with the location for the 2013 Navigation Shield conducted annually by the Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad. This year's event will be held on 6th & 7th July. It is within 3 hours, roughly north-west of Sydney, and WICEN are again looking for members to work at Base, up to 3 Radio Checkpoints, and a Repeater Site.
NSW Police Search and Rescue are looking at all of the details of the original search for the Cessna 210 VH-MDX which was lost in the Barrington Tops in 1981, to assist in planning for this year's SAREX in October. They would be assisted by any listener who has knowledge WICEN's involvement in this original search.
WICEN's Monday night HF net is now once per month. This will be the second Monday of each month at 8:00 pm. The group has started a 2m digital net via the Chatswood repeater at 7:30 pm on the 4th Wednesday of each month. Initially they will be using MT63-2k-long, available in the Fldigi [F L digi] suite of software. It can be downloaded from: www.w1hkj.com
This year's Trek for Timor will be in and around the Kangaroo Valley on Saturday the 21st of September. Funds raised will allow Alternative Technology Association developed solar powered lights to be installed in 1024 homes in the Remexio district. These will allow children to study at night, and improve health, as they replace kerosene lamps which generate health damaging particulates, and are expensive to run. The project will also train over 30 local young people in installing and maintaining the systems. Their website is: http://www.kvrp.org.au/
