WICEN will have a stand at tomorrow's Central Coast Amateur Radio Club's Wyong Field Day. This is an opportunity to pay your membership, or to join the organisation. Membership is $15 per year. WICEN Patches will also be available for $5.

WICEN is involved in the planning of a major multi agency NSW emergency services SAREX event scheduled for later this year in Southern NSW. Members will be notified of our participation requirements in the coming months.

WICEN will have a stand at the Central Coast Amateur Radio Club's Wyong Field Day on 22 February 2015. This is an opportunity to pay your membership, or to join the organisation.

The Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Service's website lists the Navshield, or NSW Emergency Services Wilderness Navigation Shield, for the weekend of the 4th and 5th of July, with set-up on the 3rd. It will be held at an as yet undisclosed location, typically within a few hours' drive of Sydney.

NASA has announced that 2014 was the hottest year on record, attributing it to greenhouse gases. This not only contributes to more severe bushfires, but the added energy in the atmosphere contributes to making storms of all types more damaging.

WICEN South Australia has been activated in the past week to support SAVEM, the South Australian Veterinary Emergency Management, providing (non-amateur) hand-held radios to them and the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources fire appliance travelling with their convoy; and setting up an aluminium mast at their base location.

WICEN will have a stand at the Central Coast Amateur Radio Club's Wyong Field Day on 22 February 2015.

One topic of conversation at your publicity officer's Christmas lunch was Use-By dates on unusual items, such as salt, and of course bottled water was mentioned. Such dates are provided because bottled water can become microbiologically unsafe after a period of storage. As such, as part of remaining prepared for activation, operators should check the dates on any such supplies.

WICEN NSW, as part of the NSW Volunteer Rescue Association, was placed on standby on Monday afternoon, in relation to the situation in the Martin Place, Sydney. The group was stood down the following morning. The VRA was pleased with the response from WICEN members, with 25 operators making themselves available, despite the short notice and undefined nature of the duties, and thanks are extended to those members.
